What Drives Human Evolution and Innovation?

Complete video at: http://fora.tv/2011/03/22/Matt_Ridley_Deep_Optimism

Matt Ridley, journalist and author of The Rational Optimist, examines the driving force behind human evolution and technological innovation, especially over the past 100,000 years. Ridley argues the answer lies in the development of exchange, or trade.

----

Via trade and other cultural activities, "ideas have sex," and that drives human history in the direction of inconstant but accumulative improvement over time. The criers of havoc keep being proved wrong. A fundamental optimism about human affairs is deeply rational and can be reliably conjured with.

Trained at Oxford as a zoologist and an editor at The Economist for eight years, Matt Ridley's newest book is The Rational Optimist: How Prosperity Evolves. His earlier works include Francis Crick; Nature via Nurture; Genome; and The Origins of Virtue. - The Long Now Foundation

Matt Ridley's books have sold over 800,000 copies, been translated into 27 languages and been short-listed for six literary prizes. In 2004 he won the National Academies Book Award from the US National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine for Nature via Nurture.

In 2006 he published Genome, a national bestseller. In 2007 he won the Davis Prize from the US History of Science Society for Francis Crick. His most recent book, The Rational Optimist: How Prosperity Evolves, was published in 2010.

He is married to the neuroscientist Professor Anya Hurlbert. They have two children and live at Blagdon near Newcastle upon Tyne.

Technocracy Awakens by hunternwo

The video has a powerful message. If you understand the context he is using to show the good the bad and the truly ugly in the end of the video. If you look in th the book  Mage The Awaken. The story this video show is haunting and epically grand. When it is analyzed by a "member" of the White Wolf community. even if you are not a member of the RPG community. the stories that are told in these tale of lost love, compelling ambition or what ever. there is something for you in the white wolf community.

Sorry, I got sidetracked but things you should know about the group called the technocracy are they are mad scientist basically and hypocritical most of the time and this is what they believe:

We are the greatest scientific minds of the world. We influence every aspect of human society. There is no magic, there is only science, to believe otherwise is deviant. And all deviance must be purged for humanity to continue to progress. We decide how tomorrow improves beyond today. If you are ready to shape the world and are willing to sacrifice yourself for humanity, you can be one of us.

p.s.  the Technocracy in the book and game by white wolf in now way is a representation any Technocratic political group or parties it is only a warped presentation of their philosophies.

mind over matter

Today I read an article on teen health were they did different work out plans. Something strange happened when the scientist told the people not doing anything that they were doing a really good exercise they started to lose weight. They did the experiment on many different groups and the results were the same that if you think something is a work out your body will to. Now that makes me think is mind over matter really a bad thing?
